Beauty - A complicated concept?

A simple Google search on the topic ‘meaning of beauty' will
give you the following results:
- combination of qualities, such as shape,
colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.
- a beautiful woman.

It is said that images speak louder than
words because visual elements work much strongly to display the essence of
something. So, I went ahead and typed just the single word ‘beauty’ in Google
images. I was expecting a variety of different images but for probably the
first time, Google did not live upto my expectations.
The search results showed only pictures of
female models or actresses with pretty faces with lots of makeup. Some of the
pictures were promoting beauty products as well. To be honest, this was very
disappointing as I believe that this is clearly not a true representation of
beauty or should we start to consider that this is what our society considers
the true definition of beauty.

I don’t want to sound like our society has
completely forgotten the real meaning of beauty and I must say that there is
indeed hope for the society. I recently asked this question to the followers on
my instagram account, “What is beauty for you in one word?”.
It was an experiment to understand how people perceive
beauty and I was honestly very relieved upon reading the responses.
Some of the responses were:
- Nature
- People
- The smile we all put on
- Soul
- Natural
- Confidence
And many more…
If this is how people define beauty then why is it that the
world’s most popular search engine Google failed to define beauty accurately.
Well, there are two sides of a coin and that is the truth that exists in case
of beauty as well.
There are these people out there who have such varied and
wonderful definitions of beauty that focuses on the deep, touching aspect of
beauty. But there are also people out there for whom beauty is nothing more
than just outer appearance.
Today we live in a society which gives a lot of priority to
appearance. It is almost as if, things are not meant to be beautiful as long as
they manage to appear beautiful. This is especially true when we consider
people. All those other qualities that makes a person beautiful from the
inside, like their nature, their attitude, their way of conduct; it is all
disregarded and only the appearance is put in frame. Everyone is busy trying to
look perfect on the outside when on the inside their confidence and belief in
themselves continues to deplete.
As much as it may seem, it is not a competition out there.
Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Look within you and you will realize
that you possess beauty in abundance. It’s all just waiting to be put out in
front of the world. Just be who you are because that is the best version of
yourself you can ever be.
Beauty exists all around you, in every little piece of
nature. You just need to feel it. Nuh-uh, don’t look around to see it because
beauty is not a sight to be seen, but an experience to be felt. Let it touch
you and let it change you. You will breathe in a new sky and walk on a new
ground. Just connect with the beauty within you and around you and you will
feel blessed to be just human.
That old grandma’s smile is beautiful. The leaves on the
tree and the one beneath on the ground is beautiful. The shades of sky, the
ripples of water, the touch of the wind in your hair is beautiful. Your care,
your kindness is beautiful. The way you laugh with all your teeth on display is
beautiful. The way you giggle at the age of 22 is beautiful. The snow clad
mountains in the distance are beautiful. The ladybug you’re scared of is
beautiful. You, yes you, my friend. You are beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI have read your article today and realize that a vast majority of people are behind the outer appearance of person. They never realize the inner quality of a soul which is very essential. This article touched my heart. What if all beautiful faces will go away from earth.
